1. Name ▾

1.1. The official name of the group shall be “Surgery Interest Group - Student Chapter of Jordan University of Science and Technology”.

1.2. The official abbreviation shall be “SIG-JUST”.

1.3. Recognized Translation of this name shall be

“مجموعة الاهتمامات الخاصة بالجراحة - فرع طلبة جامعة العلوم والتكنولوجيا الأردنية”

1.4. SIG-JUST hereinafter is also referred to as the group "المجموعة".

2. Nature ▾

2.1. The group is a form of free students' activity, independent of the Student Unions and their activities, and abiding by the rules of the Faculty of Medicine, Jordan University of Science and Technology.

2.2. The group is an independent, non-governmental, non-religious, nonpolitical and non-profit group and does not offer any financial income to its members.

3. Affiliation ▾

3.1. The group is part of student-led groups and clubs under the Faculty of Medicine, Jordan University of Science and Technology.

4. Principles ▾

4.1. The group has scientific, cultural and social activities but no political or religious ones.

4.2. The group pursues its aims without political, religious, social, racial or sexual discrimination. The group promotes humanitarian ideals among medical students and so seeks to contribute to the creation of responsible future surgeons.

4.3. The group respects the autonomy of its members.

4.4. The use of the group’s name, acronym or logo is strictly prohibited in political or religious media under any circumstances.

4.5. The group respects copyrights and intellectual property and values all protective practices to avoid their violation.

5. Vision Statement ▾

5.1. Our vision is to inspire and cultivate a dynamic community for the next generation of dedicated surgical leaders and innovators in Jordan.

6. Mission Statement ▾

6.1. Our mission is to advance surgical practice and healthcare by providing medical students with comprehensive education, networking, research, community engagement, and professional development, while fostering a supportive environment for continuous growth and collaboration among aspiring and practicing surgeons.

7. Goals ▾

7.1. The goal of the group is to serve the society of medical students as well as the public on different levels by:

  • a. Empowering medical students in using their medical and surgical knowledge and capacities for the benefit of the society.
  • b. Providing a platform for medical students to discuss surgery topics related to individual and community health, education and science with their fellow colleagues from other universities in Jordan as well as other nationalities, and to formulate policies from such discussions.
  • c. Promoting and facilitating projects and extracurricular training for medical students, thereby sensitizing them to health problems in their culture and society as well as others’.
  • d. Providing a link between members, surgeons and surgery groups within Jordan and internationally, and encouraging cooperation between them for the ultimate benefit of society.

8. Members ▾

8.1. The group is composed of medical student members, hereinafter also referred to as “active members’ and ‘alumni members’.

8.2. SIG-JUST membership is open to all medical students at Jordan University of Science and Technology Faculty of Medicine or residents and physicians at its hospitals.

8.3. All members, including active members and alumni members, shall act according to the constitution and bylaws of the federation.

8.4. No member can lose their membership except in one of the following cases:

  • a. Proven to be mistaken in an open investigation by the Executive Council of SIG-JUST.
  • b. The member was found to participate in a student activity viewed as contradicting SIG-JUST principles.

9. Executive Council ▾

9.1. The group shall be managed by the Executive Council.

9.2. The Executive Council of the group is composed of 2-5 persons who are appointed by the President and Faculty Advisor.

9.4. The group is supervised officially by the Execute Council. The Executive Council should know and revise all the activities of the group and should be involved in major decisions.

9.5. The President and Advisors are the highest authority in the group.

9.6. In case of any type of conflict in the group, the president and faculty advisor must be involved in any decision-making.

9.7. The Executive Council is entitled to officially represent the organization.

9.8. The Executive Council can delegate tasks to other persons, but it will remain responsible for management of tasks at all times.

9.9. The Executive Council member will cease to hold post:

  • a. At the end of their (at least*) one-year contract;
  • b. By a written resignation;
  • c. By their death;
  • d. By removal from position due to an open investigation by the President and Faculty Advisor.

10. Committee Directors ▾

10.1. SIG-JUST Committee Director is a person appointed by the President and Faculty Advisor to manage a committee of a specific area of the group’s activities.

10.2. All SIG-JUST Committee Directors have to work according to the SIG-JUST Constitution and Bylaws and have to promote the principles and objectives of the group.

10.3. The Committee Director will cease to hold post:

  • a. At the end of their (at least*) one-year contract;
  • b. By a written resignation;
  • c. By their death;
  • d. By removal from position due to an open investigation by the President and Faculty Advisor.

11. Committees ▾

11.1. Committees can be formed to execute, coordinate and support the activities of the group.

11.2. The work of each committee is coordinated by the respective Committee Director, with involvement of their Committee Team.
